U.S. ends $800 de minimis exemption, imposing duties on all low-value imports, effective August 29
Effective today, August 29, the de minimis exemption, which allows shipments under $800 sent to the United States to not be subject to tariffs, officially will be removed. That was the edict delivered in a White House executive order in late July.

3PLs secure 38 of top 100 U.S. industrial leases, outpacing retail and e-commerce tenants, notes CBRE report
A report issued this week by Dallas-based industrial real estate firm CBRE found that third-party logistics (3PL) services providers saw gains in the number of the largest industrial leases signed over the first half of 2025, with the firm citing large occupiers outsourcing more of their warehousing and supply chain operations as a key driver the growth.

Third quarter fiscal year 2025 earnings issued this week by the United States Postal Service (USPS) saw a steeper net loss, at $3.1 billion, than the $2.5 billion reported a year ago, for the quarter.

Descartes acquires Finale Inventory
Waterloo, Ontario-based Descartes, a provider of logistics based on-demand, software-as-a-service offerings, announced it has acquired Los Altos, California-based Finale Inventory, a cloud-based inventory management services provider, with a focus on supporting e-commerce businesses across their lifecycle.

UPS Q2 revenue falls 2.7% amid economic uncertainty, Amazon volume glide down takes hold
Quarterly consolidated revenue, at $21.2 billion, fell 2.7% annually, and basic earnings per share, at $1.55 (short of Wall Street estimates of $1.57), fell $0.24, or 13.4%, annually. Total operating profit, at $1.8 billion, decreased 6.3% annually. 

DHL heralds major investment into Middle East operations

In addition to the implementation of sweeping tariffs on United States global trading partners earlier this week, the Executive Order issued by the White House also included language regarding the end of the de minimis treatment, which allows goods under $800 sent from China and Hong Kong to the U.S. to not be subject to tariffs.
