2025 delivered a near repeat of 2024's volatility, with tariffs, uneven demand, political uncertainty, and shifting trade dynamics leaving logistics managers stuck in a constant state of reaction. Quarterly consolidated revenue, at $21.4 billion, fell 3.7% annually, and basic earnings per share, at $1.74 (topped Wall Street estimates of $1.29), fell $0.24, or 13.4%, annually. Total operating profit, at $1.8 billion, was off 9.1% annually.

Freight transportation and logistics bellwether UPS announced this week it has expanded its UPS Worldwide Express and UPS Express Plus offerings, which are part of the Atlanta-based company’s international suite of shipping services, which are comprised of time- and day-definite delivery for urgent shipments.

UPS announced this week that it has expanded its UPS Worldwide Express service to 14 new countries in the Indian subcontinent, Middle East, Africa (ISMEA), the Americas and Europe.

Taking steps to lower its operating ratio (OR) and reach its objective to operate a safe, reliable, and efficient railroad, Omaha, Neb.-based Class I railroad Union Pacific (UP) this week rolled out its Unified Plan 2020.

Last month, UPS announced that it rolled out a new service in Europe focused on urgent, time-critical shipments requiring special handling. Called UPS Express Critical, the company said examples of these shipments include things like aircraft parts or surgical tools that are particularly germane to the industries like healthcare, manufacturing and aerospace.

UPS Worldwide Freight Express is now offered in 66 origin and 64 destination countries and territories.
