Uber Freight rolls out various enhancements to its end-to-end enterprise logistics platform

Chicago-based Uber Freight, an enterprise technology company powering intelligent logistics, with a suite of end-to-end logistics applications, managed services and an expansive carrier network, announced today at its annual customer conference, Deliver, that it has introduced new enhancements to its end-to-end enterprise logistics platform.

The company said that these new enhancements span what it called seamless solutions for same day and scheduled deliveries through a strategic integration with Uber Direct, modular TMS functionality, advanced Insights AI features, and flexible procurement software, deliver customers greater transparency, control, and intelligence across the entire supply chain.

“Over the past year, we’ve worked closely with our shipper partners to understand their evolving challenges and anticipate their future needs,” said Lior Ron, Founder and CEO of Uber Freight, in a statement. “The progress we’ve made, and the innovations we’re unveiling today, are guided by these valuable customer insights. By collaborating with our customers, we’ve not only advanced our technology but also empowered them to achieve greater efficiency, resilience, and control across their supply chains. Together, we’re not just navigating the complexities of modern logistics—we’re redefining what’s possible.”

An Uber Freight spokesperson provided LM with a detailed overview of these new enhancements in the Q&A below.

LM: What drove the need for these platform enhancements?

Uber Freight: Twelve months ago, we announced a vision for Uber Freight to be the most comprehensive end-to-end logistics company and unveiled powerful, new solutions to power the movement of goods for enterprise shippers. This week, we’re unveiling an evolution to our end-to-end enterprise logistics platform to meet the complex and evolving needs of the industry.

Our shippers and carriers' needs are dynamic. Their technology needs to be too. Shippers require agile procurement solutions and flexible, modular, and extensible transportation management tools that forge supply chain efficiency, agility, and resilience that drive the best outcomes from their network across market conditions. Meanwhile, carriers must maximize utilization, grow revenue, and build sustainable relationships. We’ve listened and worked closely with both sides to understand their pain points and tailor our logistics applications accordingly.

Our North Star is purposeful innovation—built to solve real industry problems. Of note, all of the enhancements announced at Deliver 2024 were incubated within our new Design Partner Program, an industry-first initiative where leading shippers and carriers collaborate with our research and design teams on products that influence how goods move today and tomorrow.

LM: What are the main benefits of these enhancements for your shipper customers?

Uber Freight: At every stage of the supply chain—planning, procurement, execution, visibility, and payments—we orchestrate tailored, end-to-end solutions that provide shippers with transparency, control, and intelligence. Each supply chain is unique, so whether a shipper is moving a handful of loads or thousands, they need access to reliable capacity, real-time visibility, and specialized tools that enable data-driven decision-making.

With Uber Freight Exchange, that means delivering an expansive, shipper/carrier-agnostic contract and spot procurement marketplace at their fingertips. With our TMS enhancements, we’re equipping shippers with intuitive, customizable tools that enhance each step of the shipment lifecycle. Insights AI takes this a step further by empowering teams as an intelligent logistics co-pilot that helps analyze their network, contextualize market trends, uncover hidden opportunities, and drive the best outcomes for their supply chain. By integrating our Parcel TMS (PTMS) with Uber Direct, we're offering shippers of all sizes a seamless and optimized solution for the final leg of the logistics journey.

LM: Can you please provide an example of how the new final mile offering works/functions?

Uber Freight: At the core of this expansion is our Parcel Transportation Management System (PTMS), a mature and scalable technology that has processed over 250 million packages in the last 12 months. The PTMS, which routes packages to a last-mile carrier, including optimizing for best cost, service and speed, differentiates itself by providing complete optionality, transparency, and configurability, and is designed to meet the needs of a multi-billion-dollar industry that increasingly demands innovative models to deliver packages efficiently.

Our asset-light model, which leverages independent contractors and other carrier networks, offers competitive pricing, a broad range of speed options, and reliable service while maintaining flexibility and optionality in carrier selection. Our integration with Uber Direct augments our existing capability to provide shippers with the ability to inject into other carrier networks, densify shipments into destination geographies, and leverage our at-scale middle-mile network.

By taking advantage of our latest integrated technologies, we help reduce the shipper's overheads in carrier procurement, integration, and last-mile execution.

LM: What are the main changes/benefits of the new TMS offering compared to the previous one?

Uber Freight: The new TMS represents a complete re-architecture, integrating Uber-grade technology infrastructure to deliver a more robust, secure, and continuously evolving platform.

Designed with the future of connected supply chains in mind, the TMS unifies people, processes, and technology to drive superior transportation outcomes for both Transportation Management and SaaS customers. This enhanced infrastructure has enabled Uber Freight to release more pilots, features, and updates in the past year—many now embedded within the TMS—than ever before in the company’s history.

Along with these platform-level enhancements, we’ve introduced a fully revamped user interface. Purpose-built for shippers, operators, and carriers, the new interface automates and streamlines transportation activities across all stages of the shipment lifecycle, delivering unmatched efficiency and scalability. With integrated AI, the platform also enhances data-driven decision-making, empowering users to take more proactive and effective control of their logistics networks.

Key new updates to Uber Freight TMS include:

  • Control Tower & Tracking Portal: Gain real-time, end-to-end visibility into critical logistics data, enabling proactive decision-making and full control over your supply chain;
  • Intuitive Dock Scheduler: Enhanced appointment scheduling and management to drive predictability and improve on-time performance;
  • Redesigned Rates & Lanes: Easily manage rate agreements and quotes for accurate invoicing and precise accruals;
  • Streamlined Order & Shipment Entry: A redesigned manual order inception and consolidation experience, optimized for vendor management and exception handling;
  • Enhanced Location Data Handling: Streamlined, network-customized data repository now offers quick, accurate access to location data and comprehensive facility performance overviews for smoother appointment scheduling; and
  • Simplified Financial Management Tools: Ensure no money is left behind with proactive financial discrepancy management, enhanced visibility, and improved freight spend forecasting

These features transform Uber Freight’s TMS into a strategic tool, helping shippers manage their logistics with increased speed, intelligence, and precision. This adaptability, coupled with forthcoming AI-powered features including AI-powered search and shipment execution, ensures that shippers are not only prepared for today’s complexities but can also anticipate and respond to the challenges of tomorrow.
