The impact that the rise of e-commerce has had on freight logistics and transportation management has been profound—and it has affected every mode.

E-commerce has also led to a number of different fulfillment models along with a large proliferation of fulfillment centers, generally smaller and closer to customers.

However, which is the right model for fulfillment? Manufacturer to customer? DC to customer? Store to customer? Buy on-line, pick up in store (BOPUS)?

To respond, savvy logistics managers are leveraging more dynamic systems, third-party partnerships, new software and new ways of thinking in an effort to improve carrier and service provider partnerships and increase speed and efficiency all the way to the customer’s door.
