Company officials said that this represents the first step of new market expansions, with 2023 openings also planned in Kansas City and Portland.

Downers Grove, Ill.-based Roadrunner, a national less-than-truckload (LTL) services provider, with a focus on long-haul metro-to-metro shipping, said it has added five additional direct lanes to its service network. And it also noted that it has improved transit times by at least one day in 66 of its major lanes.

Faced with more moving parts than at any other time, the current state of the less-than-truckload market has carriers riding high, with shippers looking to lock in strong pricing and balance their network operations and priorities.

Roadrunner said that these improvements have led to transit time reductions, for its shipper customers, in 120 long-haul lanes across the 32 United States-based markets it serves.

The Cudahy, Wis.-based company said it has refocused its LTL network standards as part of a move to further enhance service consistency, which it said will provide customers with better visibility to delivery dates and better work and collaborate with RRTS to better manage supply chain operations and economically manage transportation costs.

Non asset-based third-party logistics services provider Roadrunner Transportation Systems Inc. (RRTS) continues to stay true to its theory of growth by acquisition, saying yesterday it has brought two new companies into the fold: Adrian Carriers, a Milan, Illinois-based logistics service provider focusing on container management and intermodal, and Wando Trucking, a Charleston, South Carolina-based provider of intermodal services and related services in the Southeast.

The company announced this week it has acquired all of the outstanding capital stock of CTW Transport, a Peabody, Mass.-based truckload carrier specializing in refrigerated food products.
