Peak Surcharges

The firm said that based on its estimates it expects that 2.3 million packages will be delivered over this year’s peak, representing a 5% annual gain, attributing the expected increase to one more shopping day than there was in 2024.

Amazon Shipping will add peak season surcharges from Oct. 26 through Jan. 17, 2026, the company recently announced.

UPS has announced its 2025 peak demand surcharges, adding new costs for businesses shipping during the holiday rush. The surcharges will take effect September 28 and run through January 17, covering the busiest stretch of the year for e-commerce and retail deliveries.

Atlanta-based global freight transportation and logistics services provider UPS recently issued a customer notice, indicating it will be implementing demand-based surcharges, for the fall peak season. UPS said that the demand surcharges will apply to all UPS Air, UPS Ground Residential, and UPS SurePost packages.

The Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC), a concern responsible for oversight of the United States Postal Service (USPS), including oversight of rates and services, and ensuring the Postal Service meets all of its legal requirements, recently approved proposed temporary price adjustments for key USPS package products for the 2021 peak holiday season.

Memphis-based global freight transportation and logistics services provider FedEx recently announced new peak surcharges and fees for its U.S. Express and Ground services and Ground International.

FY 2022 full-year revenue rose 17.6% annually, and operating income climbed 46.8% annually. For the fiscal fourth quarter, revenue rose 23% annually, and operating income headed up 278%. Earnings per share (topping Wall Street expectations of $5.02 per share) well outpaced the $1.28 per share recorded a year ago, as well as a $334 million loss.

UPS said its goal is to ensure businesses and customers are able to meet their shipping needs while demand has increased for shipping services.

After stating it would decrease COVID-19-Peak Surcharges from China mainland to the United States on October 4, global freight transportation and logistics services provider UPS said this week that those surcharges will be increasing, effective October 25. UPS originally stated its intention to implement COVID-19-related Peak Surcharges in late May.
