UPS rolls out peak season rates for air and ground shipments

Fees will range from $0.40 to $8.75 per package, adding new costs for businesses during the holiday shipping rush

UPS rolls out peak season rates for air and ground shipments

UPS has announced its 2025 peak demand surcharges, adding new costs for businesses shipping during the holiday rush. The surcharges will take effect September 28 and run through January 17, covering the busiest stretch of the year for e-commerce and retail deliveries.

According to UPS, fees will range from $0.40 to as much as $8.75 per package, depending on shipment volume and service level. The surcharges apply to key services, including Air, Ground Residential, and Ground Saver. For some customers, higher fees will kick in as early as October 26, tightening margins during the peak season.

The late timing of the announcement is raising concerns for shippers. With less than a month before the surcharges begin, many companies have limited time to adjust budgets, renegotiate contracts, or explore alternative carriers. Analysts note that the delay may reduce leverage for shippers while giving UPS greater control over pricing during the most critical shipping period of the year.
