U.S.-Vietnam make trade deal
President Donald Trump announced a trade agreement with Vietnam this week, slashing the threatened 46% tariff on Vietnamese imports to 20% and granting duty-free entry for U.S. goods. The deal comes as Washington intensifies efforts to redraw global supply chains and reduce America’s reliance on Chinese manufacturing.

Echo subsidiary Roadtex opens up two new locations
Echo said the new Roadtex facilities are based in Greenville, South Carolina and also outside of Nashville, adding that these locations provide customers with various benefits, including improved technology, increased square footage, expanded transportation, and warehousing capabilities, and additional capacity.

May retail sales see annual gains, reports Commerce and NRF
Commerce reported that May retail sales, at $715.4 billion, fell 0.9% compared to April and rose 3.3% annually. NRF reported that monthly core retail sales, which are based on Census data and exclude automobile dealers, gas stations, and restaurants, increased 0.1% on a seasonally-adjusted basis, from April to May, and rose 3.9% on an unadjusted basis annually.

Outpost adds four new freight terminals to its national network
The company explained that these acquisitions are a continuation of Outpost’s expansion from providing shippers with standalone fleet yards to full-service, shared-use terminals, with each property comprised of a mix of cross-docks, maintenance facilities, warehouses, office space, and drop yard acreage.

The May Services PMI, at 49.9 (a reading of 50 or higher signals growth), fell 1.7% from April’s 51.6 reading. Prior to May, the Services PMI had seen growth in 56 of the previous 59 months, going back to the initial recovery from the pandemic in June 2020.

The report’s benchmark reading, the PMI, came in at 48.5 (a reading of 50 or higher indicates growth), down 0.2% from April’s 48.7 reading. The last three months of declines were preceded by gains, with January and February readings at 50.9 and 50.3, respectively, and were preceded by 26 months of declines.
