Rail carloads—at 1,165,733—decreased 5.9%, or 73,110 carloads, annually, and intermodal containers and trailers—at 1,245,080 units—decreased 5.4%, or 71,081 units.

Total shipments for the month—at 1,441—were down 18.5% annually. Domestic containers—at 653,626—saw a 2.6% decline, while trailers—at 93,147—slumped 24.5%. All domestic equipment—at 746,773—was off 6%. ISO, or international, containers—at 694,501—saw an 11% decline.
April intermodal volumes see slight annual gain, reports IANA

Total April volume, at 1,506,210, was up 0.2% annually. Trailers again saw the steepest decline, falling 13% to 102,349, following March’s 12.1% annual decline. Domestic containers, at 614.225, slipped 4%.

March volume came in at 1,521,012 for a 3.7% annual decline. Trailers saw the steepest decline, down 12.1% to 112,490. Domestic containers, at 638,673, were down 5.5%, and all domestic equipment, at 751,163, dropped 6.6%. International, or ISO, containers, at 769,849, were off 0.7%.
