Forth Worth Texas-based Class I railroad carrier BNSF Railway Company announced this week that Matt Rose, executive chairman, will retire in April 2019.

United States Class I railroad carriers BNSF and CSX this week announced they will collaborate on a direct-rail domestic and international container-only intermodal service running between Los Angeles and North Baltimore, Ohio, which is slated to kick off on October 29.

The service will connect the Chicago and Dallas/Fort Worth markets, as well as other major markets on the BNSF network, with key consumer and industrial regions on the Kansas City Southern de Mexico network.

This service will be geared towards shippers moving commodities and consumer goods between Portland, Oregon or Seattle, and Dallas/Fort Worth to be able to reduce their transit times by up to two days compared to current rail transit times, with BNSF saying that the service is in line speed-wise with single-driver, over-the-road options.

BNSF said that its 2015 capital expenditures will be allocated towards various areas of its business, including maintenance and expansion of the railroad to meet the expected demand for freight rail service, with 2015 representing the third straight year BNSF has invested a record annual capital expenditures investment.
