The January shipments reading, at 0.954, fell 8.2% annually and was off 5.3% compared to December. January expenditures, at 2.971, fell 4.2% annually and dropped 4.8% compared to December.

The report’s fourth quarter shipment index value, at 80.1, was down 4.7% compared to the third quarter and was off 15.7% annually. Fourth quarter freight spend, at 182.4, was off 2.2%, from the third quarter to the fourth quarter, and fell 22.0% annually. This was below the 186.6 third quarter reading.

The December shipments reading, at 1.007, fell 6.5% annually and was down 7.3% compared to November. The December expenditures reading, at 3.120, fell 3.4% annually and was down 2.6% compared to Novembe

The November shipments reading, at 1.086, fell 0.7% annually and rose 0.5% sequentially. November freight expenditures, at 3.203, fell 3.8% annually, and rose 0.9% sequentially.

ODFL reported that revenue-per-day fell 8.2 % annually, paced by an 8.0% decrease in daily LTL tonnage, as well as slight decrease in LTL revenue per hundredweight. And it added that the change in daily LTL tonnage was due to a 6.8% decline in LTL shipments per day, as well as a 1.2% decrease in LTL weight per shipment.

The October shipments reading, at 1.081, fell 2.4% annually, following a 5.2% annual decline in September. Expenditures, at 3.175, fell 5.9% annually.

September’s shipment reading, at 1.102, fell 5.2% annually, and September expenditures, at 3.224, decreased 6.6% annually.

August’s shipment reading, at 1.121, fell 1.9% annually, and August expenditures, at 3.147, fell 9.0% annually.

July’s shipment reading, at 1.110, was off 1.1% annually, not as steep as 6.0% and 5.8% annual declines seen in June and May, respectively. July expenditures, at 3.211, fell 6.2% annually, and were off 0.7%, from June to July

The report’s second quarter shipment index value, at 85.6, was off 2.2% compared to the first quarter and down 22.4% annually.

June’s shipment reading, at 1.078, fell 6.0% annually, in line with May’s 5.8% annual decline, and was down 1.8% compared to May. On the expenditures side, the June reading fell 9.4%, from May to June (in line with May’s 9.0% decline), coming in at 3.189, and was down 3.0% compared to May.

May’s shipment reading, at 1.098, fell 5.8% annually and was flat compared to April. For expenditures, the May reading, at 3.288, decreased 9.0% annually and 1.9% sequentially.
