Earlier today, Alan Shaw, president and CEO, of Atlanta-based Class I railroad carrier Norfolk Southern provided testimony at a U.S. Senate Committee on Environment & Public Works (EPW) hearing, regarding the February 3 derailment of an NS train in East Palestine, Ohio.

Atlanta-based Class I railroad carrier Norfolk Southern (NS) rolled out a six-point plan to “immediately enhance the safety of its operations.” The company said that this plan is based on preliminary findings made by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) after an NS train derailed in East Palestine, Ohio on February 3.

Specifics on when NS will officially set up shop in Atlanta were not disclosed, but company officials said that the company is currently in what it called “advanced discussions” to purchase a site from Cousins Properties in Midtown Atlanta at 650 West Peachtree St. NW.

Class I railroad carriers CN and Norfolk Southern announced they have partnered up on a new joint interline service offering for carload traffic between Western Canada and NS’s Eastern-based U.S. destinations. CN and NS officials said that this endeavor will reduce transit times for these routes by one to two days.
