The National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) system, a standard for identifying and classifying freight for over 70 years, is getting its biggest update in decades. The new classification system, going into effect on July 19, 2025, will simplify how shippers and carriers categorize freight—and potentially impact their bottom line.
