New Warehouse Management & Execution System Offers Breakthrough Capabilities

In this Q&A, Dan Gilmore, Softeon’s chief marketing officer, discusses the state of the supply chain automation market and shows how the company is responding to new market trends.

New Warehouse Management & Execution System Offers Breakthrough Capabilities

Q:  What’s new in supply chain automation?

A: We were already on a strong uptrend towards more DC automation. When we get on the other side of COVID-19, that will accelerate even more once the economy gains some strength. I am convinced, for example, that most DCs will have at least some mobile robots in the next 3-5 years. WMS and, importantly, WES will need to really step up to support the automation, both heavy automation and mid-level such as mobile robots and put walls

Q: How is Softeon approaching these shifts?

A: We’re featuring our new Warehouse Management and Execution System, we believe the first to combine advanced WMS with the newer WES software. After two decades of incremental progress in warehouse software from most vendors, this offers breakthrough capabilities. Significant improvements are possible in cost, throughput and service from advanced visibility to and optimization and orchestration of fulfillment processes. The Softeon solution also delivers value to both automated DCs and manual facilities.

Q:  What new supply chain trends will emerge over the next 6-12 months?

A: If it’s possible, direct to consumer (D2C) fulfillment is likely to become even more important, and that will drive more interest in WMS and WES to support processes such as waveless picking, as well as various forms of automation to drive down costs and improve speed.

Q: How will Softeon respond to these trends?

A: We all get focused on the software, in our case with products like Warehouse Management and Warehouse Execution Systems, but we can't forget that the key is getting the deployment right with minimal pain, rapid time to value, and delivering what you promised. That's what Softeon does.
