Maersk Ground Freight recently announced it has opened a 100,000-square-foot facility in Coppell, Texas, just five miles from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. The combined station and linehaul hub will handle thousands of shipments each week, serving both the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area and Maersk’s wider national network.
The facility is already active and will be fully operational in time for the holiday shipping season. Maersk says the site will help improve speed, reliability, and network coverage as shipping volumes rise heading into peak season. Planning for this facility began in early 2024, the company said.
“This facility is a true force multiplier for our capacity and capabilities. It allows us to consolidate operations while gaining efficiencies, serve our customers better, and provide our Dallas team with a modern, well-equipped workspace. It strengthens our integrated logistics network across North America, enabling daily freight movement across the U.S. and Canada,” said Gabe Alizieri, Head of Maersk Ground Freight.
The new Coppell hub replaces Maersk’s previous Irving station and brings together both pickup and delivery operations under one roof. It expands the company’s Texas network, which now includes seven stations and multiple hubs in Austin, Houston, El Paso, Laredo, and McAllen. The company added it consolidated its Irving station and Grapevine Hub into one building without disruptions.
A company official explained that to better serve customers, Maersk Ground Freight strategically integrated its local station and middle mile operations with this facility.
“This streamlines our network, enabling faster transit times and more efficient coordination across the supply chain,” she said. “As a result, our end-to-end customer service can be more responsive, allowing us to address customer needs with greater speed and precision.”
Maersk said the expansion comes as it gears up for busy business-to-consumer and business-to-business deliveries this holiday season. Its ground freight network handles less-than-truckload (LTL), full truckload, store delivery, and white glove services across North America.
With more than 65 facilities in the U.S. and Canada, Maersk Ground Freight continues to grow its presence and increase network flexibility for customers moving goods across the region.
In terms of staffing, the Maersk spokesperson could not disclose specific counts, but she did say it gives the company the opportunity, along with its other stations and hubs across the state—including Austin, Houston, El Paso, Laredo, and McAllen—to support growing demand and provide employment opportunities.
It’s been a busy year for Maersk. Along with expanding its U.S. ground freight network, the company has made major moves in Panama, including building a new logistics hub and purchasing the Panama Canal Railway.
