Global trade remains strong despite tariff uncertainty, DHL report finds

Global trade is proving tougher than expected, even as U.S. tariffs climb to their highest levels in nearly a century. According to the latest DHL Global Connectedness Tracker, released in partnership with NYU Stern, world trade expanded faster in the first half of 2025 than in any six-month stretch since 2010, excluding the pandemic rebound.

The report offers the first in-depth look at how international business and trade are responding to new U.S. trade policies under President Trump’s second term. It draws from more than 20 million data points across 25 sources to show how globalization continues to evolve, despite economic and political headwinds.

“Trade barriers do not serve the world's best interests,” said John Pearson, CEO of DHL Express. “But we must never underestimate the creativity of buyers and sellers around the world who want to do business with each other.”
