CMA CGM announced plans to acquire Freightliner, a major step that will make the shipping giant a stronger player in railroad logistics in the United Kingdom. The deal covers Freightliner UK Intermodal Logistics, including its rail and road operations, inland terminals, and the Freightliner brand.”
The deal is expected to close in early 2026, pending regulatory approval. Other Freightliner operations—Heavy Haul, Rotterdam Rail Feeding, and businesses in Poland and Germany—will remain under current ownership.
Freightliner will continue to operate as a multi-user, multi-customer rail freight company, running independently with its current teams. CMA CGM said the acquisition will help shift more cargo from road to rail, cutting carbon emissions and supporting its decarbonization goals.
