Like last month, the current state of affairs was presented in somewhat stark terms in the most recent edition of the Shippers Condition Index (SCI) recently issued by freight transportation consultancy FTR.

FTR said that the current SCI level continues to show the “moratorium” in truckload rate growth during the summer months, adding that it is expected that market conditions will become more difficult for shippers in 2016 en route to the expected negative impact regulations are expected to have on capacity, with the regulatory crunch expected to be in full effect in 2017.

With overall market conditions for shippers being largely viewed as difficult, the most recent edition of the Shippers Conditions Index (SCI) from freight transportation consultancy FTR is calling for more of the same in the coming months, even with signs of improvement in April, the most recent month which the report covers.

While over-the-road capacity availability remains tight, the outlook is not quite as dire as it was earlier this year. That was a major theme in the most recent edition of the Shippers Condition Index (SCI) released this week by freight transportation consultancy FTR.

Tight capacity in the freight transportation market continues to be the norm, and that theme was no exception in the most recent edition of the Shippers Condition Index (SCI) from FTR.

Not surprisingly, tight capacity was the major theme of the most recent edition of the Trucking Conditions Index (TCI) issued by freight transportation consultancy FTR this week.

FTR's Trucking Conditions Index for January, the most recent month for which data is available, was 8.82 and is up 2.8 points from December, with FTR explaining that gain is indicative of what it described as belated improvement in truckload rates that started to take hold last July, when changes to driver Hours-of-Service (HOS) regulations commenced.

Three months of mediocre growth regarding the market environment for shippers came to a halt in December, based on the most recent edition of the Shipper Conditions Index (SCI) from freight transportation consultancy FTR.
