September POLA and POLB volumes see annual declines

The Port of Los Angeles reported that total volume, at 883,053 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEU), fell 7.5% annually, and the Port of Long Beach reported that total September volume, at 797,537 TEU, was off 3.9% annually.

POLA reported that total April volume, at 842,806 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEU) increased 9.4% annually, for its third-best April on record. Total April POLB volume, at 867,943 TEU, marked a 15.6% annual gain, for the port’s strongest April in its history, topping April 2022 by 5.7%.

The Port of Los Angeles reported that total December volume, at 921,616 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units), posted a 24.12% annual increase. The Port of Long Beach reported that total December volume, at 861,006 TEU, increased 21.3% annually, setting a new December record, topping December 2020 by 5.5%.

Total volume came in at 960,597 TEU (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units), which was up 16% annually, and a “near record,” as well as the highest-volume non-pandemic month in the port’s history. Imports, at 509,363 TEU, increased 18% annually, topping July’s 428,753 TEU, and up 18% annually. Exports, at 121,744 TEU, trailed July’s 122,515 TEU and were off 3% annually. Empty containers, at 329,491 TEU, climbed 22% annually.

OLA reported that total June volume came in at 827,757 TEU (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units), representing a 10% gain over June and was essentially flat annually, down 0.63%. POLB set a new June, at 842,446 TEU, saw a 41.1% annual increase, topping the previous June high, set in 2022, by 7,034 TEU.

The Port of Los Angeles reported that total September volume, at 748,440 TEU, was up 5% annually, marking its second consecutive month of annual growth. The Port of Long Beach reported that September marked its highest-volume September on record, with volume at 829,429 TEU, increasing 11.8% annually, and topping the previous September high in 2020 by 78,849 TEU.
May POLA and POLB volumes earn spots in the ports’ record books

And total May POLB volume came in at 890,989 TEU, down 1.8% compared to May 2021, but representing the second-highest-volume month in the port's history.

And total January POLB data—at 800,943 TEU—saw a 4.8% annual increase, marking the first time the port processed more than 800,000 TEU in January and topping the previous record set in January 2021.

POLA reported that total April volume—at 946,966 TEU (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units)—marked a 37.4% annual increase, for its busiest April in the port’s 114-year history. And POLB reported that April volumes turned in its highest-ever levels for April, in the port’s history, coming in at 746,188 TEU, for a 43.6% annual increase, paced, in large part, by the cargo boom derived from e-commerce activity.
