Earlier today, Chicago-based third-party logistics (3PL) services provider Echo Global Logistics said it has officially opened the doors to a new Mexico City-based office.
This follows a March 2024 effort, in which Echo expanded its cross-border services in Mexico, following eight years of managing southern border shipping services. As key parts of this expansion, the company said, at the time, that it has set up new locations in Mexico City, Monterrey, and Laredo, Texas, and also tapped 30-year logistics veteran Troy Ryley as President, Echo Mexico. Ryley has deep experience managing and scaling large teams, as well as extensive knowledge in developing integrated U.S.-Mexico logistics offerings.
“We’re excited to continue to develop our cross-border solutions with the opening of our Mexico City division headquarters,” said Doug Waggoner, Chief Executive Officer at Echo, in a statement. “Our experts are dedicated to our clients and carriers who do business in the Mexican transportation market and establishing our presence within the country reinforces this commitment.”
Echo also has Mexico-based operations in Monterey and Guadalajara, as well as in Laredo, Texas.
In an interview with LM, Ryley said that there were various drivers leading to the company’s decision to open up this new office, noting that Echo’s existing clients continue to expand their operations and sales into and out of Mexico, coupled with Echo building the necessary infrastructure to meet its current and future client demands. Additionally, Ryley observed that Mexico’s proximity to the U.S. makes it an ideal hub for cross-border trade, as its location facilitates the efficient movement of goods between two of the world’s largest economies, providing significant advantages in logistics and transportation.
“Mexico has a very volatile and ever-changing logistics landscape, making it crucial for clients to choose supply chain partners that can adjust and adapt when necessary,” explained Ryley. “Our people, processes, and technology create the flexibility our clients require to evolve their strategies as market conditions change. Echo’s personnel on both sides of the border, from Mexico City and Monterrey to Laredo, Texas, help design and implement unique and customizable solutions for our clients. With offices located within Mexico, we’re better able to support our clients in country and be more readily able to assist with any transportation needs they might have.
Additionally, our team’s extensive expertise ensures seamless integration between Mexico and the U.S., allowing us to optimize logistics, streamline processes, and deliver exceptional service to our clients. In addition, our advanced technology offers a single-party accountability system, driving efficiency and making us one of the most competitive logistics companies in the world.”
When asked what services are provided by Echo out of the new Mexico City office, Ryley said that Echo’s Mexico division provides Cross-Border and southern border truck brokerage, and U.S. and Mexican Customs Brokerage. He also noted that Echo’s Mexico division also offers the same diversity of services that its U.S. solutions have including Managed Transportation, Warehousing and Distribution, and cargo insurance through EchoInsure+Mexico.
