A collaboration announced this week between two well-known supply chain players—San Francisco-based real estate investment trust company Prologis and Performance Team, a subsidiary of Copenhagen, Denmark-based A.P. Moeller Maersk, an integrated global logistics services provider, operating more than 140 electric vehicles across the U.S.­—heralds the rollout of the largest heavy-duty electric vehicle (EV) charging depot in Southern California.

A purchase price for the transaction was not disclosed. Southern Companies provides various import and export services, including warehousing and trucking, to ensure customer goods are moving swiftly through the supply chain.

Company officials said that the Forward Intermodal unit will operate a secure container drop yard in the area, at an existing company LTL terminal which they said is expected to create transloading efficiencies and improve speed for its customers.

Forward Air Corporation recently announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire the assets of Chickasaw Container Services, Inc. (“CCS”), a privately held intermodal drayage provider. The transaction will be funded from cash on hand and is expected to close in November 2022.

Atlanta-based Nolan Transportation Group (NTG), a provider of non-asset, tech-enabled logistics and brokerage services, and a subsidiary of Transportation Insight, and San Francisco-based freight forwarding and customs brokerage services provider Flexport, said they are collaborating on a strategic partnership focused on integrating their respective technologies, with a focus on “greater visibility across supply chains.”

Entitled Beon, TI said that this new platform gives shippers and carriers a single point of access to access both TI’s and Atlanta-based Nolan Transportation Group’s (NTG) logistics network and services, “from port to porch.”

Addressing Peak Season from a port perspective, Brian Baskin, SEKO Logistics Managing Director, explained that, as a point of compassion, two-to-three months ago, there were around 30 vessels backlogged outside the Port of Los Angeles, with what remains to be seen is if the pendulum is coming back, as things get closer to Peak Season.
