Lost in the shuffle of the myriad executive orders issued by President Trump soon after his return to the White House was one stating that the United States, again, has exited the Paris Agreement.

The new “State of Transportation” report issued today by Green Bay, Wis.-based Breakthrough, a provider of fuel and freight solutions for shippers, addressed myriad components of freight transportation and logistics impacting shippers and carriers, including volatile weather, sustainability and emissions reduction, and over-the-road capacity, among others. 

The White House said that this effort is focused on boosting supply chains considered critical to the country’s economic and national security while also boosting the economy on various fronts—including: enabling reliable deliveries for businesses; strengthen U.S. agriculture and food systems; and also support good-paying union jobs—and also “support the enduring reliance of America’s critical supply chains.”

To say this is the hot topic of the day would be a vast understatement. But we already knew that. Another thing that is quickly known and observed is that this move has raised a tremendous amount of tension and ire in an already highly-polarizing political environment.

With much on the line as it relates to the United States’ role in lowering global carbon emissions, various media reports coming out today are indicating that the U.S. is pulling out of The Paris Agreement by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC).

While President Trump and Administration officials have not made their intentions clear in regards to the United States remaining in the Paris Agreement, a large faction of well-known companies have made it very clear they want to remain part of it.
